What's Really on Your Towel? Test Reveals Shocking Results

When it comes to skincare, the tools you use are just as important as the products themselves. Your towel, for example, plays a key role in your daily routine—but is it really as clean as you think? At Elvée, we decided to go a step further and conducted a test on ordinary towels to find out what's lurking on the surface. The results were revealing, to say the least.

The experience

We tested a supposedly "clean" towel for bacteria. Although the towel was washed, our culture test revealed bacterial colonies—proving that "clean" towels may not be as clean as you think.

Shocking discoveries

Our culture test revealed the presence of specific bacterial colonies that thrive on towels:

  • Yellow colonies : Probably Staphylococcus aureus , a common bacteria that can grow in these conditions. It is often found on human skin, towels, or surfaces.
  • White or pale colonies : Possibly Staphylococcus epidermidis or other common skin flora found on towels and surfaces.
  • Orange dots : These colonies could correspond to a pigmented bacterium like Serratia marcescens , sometimes present in humid environments.

Why is this important?

Every time you use a contaminated towel, you transfer bacteria, dust, and residue to your skin. For those with sensitive or acne-prone skin, this can lead to irritation, clogged pores, and even infections. Your towel could be undoing all the benefits your skincare routine is trying to provide.

The Elvée Difference

Our results confirm why Elvée biodegradable wipes are a true revolution for your skincare routine. Made from 100% eucalyptus plant viscose, they are single-use, ensuring a clean and fresh surface every time.
